I relate entrepreneurs to the pioneers of old. They have to be brave, deal with uncertainty, venture forth boldly into unknown territories, throwing caution to the wind, while risking all.

As much as all the market research, product perfecting, and planning can be explored beforehand, at the end of the day, the entrepreneur has to trust and believe that all will work out. The trials, tribulations, successes, sleepless nights, roller coaster emotions, back patting, will follow but from a place usually quite far outside their comfort zones.

Recently Calm In Storm was invited to workshop a group of 1st-year students at the Aleit Academy. The content of the workshop focused on a holistic approach to goal-setting.

Even though goal-setting can be  quite a linear exercise, with timelines and objectives, it’s still important within an entrepreneurial sphere as it enables to identify what ( objective) we want to achieve, why (emotional driver) we feel it’s necessary to achieve it, and by when (measurable objective) we want to achieve it. It can be used in the different aspects for any entrepreneurial venture i.e marketing, admin, personnel, finances etc.

By the way of games, discussions, exercises and meditations we explored a light-hearted way to setting and achieving a goal within 30 days. The reason the goal is set to be achieved within 30 days is because;

    1. It’s in the not too distant future – it’s visible and within grasping distance – diluting any potential distractions.
    2. The workshop aims to introduce the tools needed to achieve the goals.
    3. Over the next 30 days – the attendees work on their goal, developing the muscles needed for any future goals.

This is what they said about the workshop.

Gary’s workshop touched on points that we forget about during our life. Important points on setting goals and the process to achieve them. We all hear these points at some time in our life but forget them – this is why Gary’s workshop really opened my eyes and reminded me that it actually is of utmost importance to set goals.

He also had us meditate to help with the process of achieving our goals and it was really amazing. A strange experience and (the meditation) definitely not for everyone.

I extremely enjoyed the workshop and am motivated to work on achieving and setting new and ultimate goals.I would definitely recommend Gary’s workshop to anyone looking for help on setting goals.
