“With a growing population of youth in South Africa (over 19 million), now more than ever, it is essential to nurture youth for the future of our country.” This is the opening line on the Salesians Life Choices website home page.
To back up their statement, one of the programs that Salesians Life Choices offers is the Leaders Quest. Here they recruit 160 Cape Flats teenagers, aged 16-18, who are facilitated in 50 hours of diverse leadership training.
Salesians Life Choices contacted Calm In Storm, via one of their network members and previous beneficiary of Calm In Storm’s goal-setting workshop for teenagers-Western Cape Network for Peace and Development.
Salesians Life choices asked for the 1/2 day goal-setting workshop to be facilitated on the staff members with the intention that if it’s suitable, to become part of their Leaders Quest program.
During the short time that Calm In Storm has been facilitating the goal-setting workshop, the numbers of attendees, per work shop, has increased for 6 to 20. This is due to the perfecting of the format as well as how it’s structured so that each attendee doesn’t feel left out.
As per the feedback and constructive comments, the workshop was very favorably received. The participants had fun, were stimulated, and learnt a holistic approach to goal-setting – one of the common traits of successful leaders. With this kind of response, Calm In Storm, envisions helping to nurture the youth’s leadership qualities for the future of our country.
