From speaking to teenagers that attend my workshops and when I speak at schools, one of the questions  they ask me is, “how did you know what you wanted to do with your life?”

The thing is that initially I didn’t. It took me a long while of travelling and career hopping as well as the exploration of self-development before I was able to make a informed decision. and back then I think it was easier to decide.

In this day and age I believe it’s more difficult for a teenager to decide. They do have access to more information which should ultimately help  them, but they also have access to,  more distractions (social media etc) and outside influences (the media.) There is also the world of celebritydom  (as I call it) where it seems that 15 minutes of fame can come by quite easily.

And this is not an uncommon issue at the moment. Not according to this interesting  blog post.

My response to the question is threefold;

1. Explore your Values – see what it is that makes you tick as a unique individual.

2. Explore what interests you the most  that you feel you can carry on with.

3. Eliminate the distractions, listen to yourself for a while and trust your intuition.
