The high of a book launch is just that… a high!

As the Author all the focus is upon you. Everyone wants to talk to you, take your photo and congratulate you. It’s easy to feel like the King of the world basking in all the glory. Nothing wrong with that as an achievement has been reached and congratulations all around are in order.

The day after the launch it’s the complete opposite. Everyone has gone back to their day jobs and life fits in with the rest of the masses. It’s quite possible that there is another book launch at the same venue  where yours was held so even your book is starting to slip into obscurity. In this day and age, with so much information out there, people have to be continuously reminded about your book. Reviews, interviews and exposure is crucial. Bookstores, online stores, websites and alternative outlets have to stock your book- but before that can happen there is the legal aspect to independently publishing a title that has to be adhered to.

A legal deposit  is supplying a certain number of copies (depending on the print run) to the National library of South  Africa. It is an international practice and the purpose  is to collect, preserve and make available to present and future users the documents that contain the intellectual and cultural heritage of the country. It costs nothing but it has to be done and it is the Publishers responsibility.

An information sheet about the the title also  needs to be submitted to the South African South African National Library. This 1 page information sheet can be obtained from:
