During a recent visit to @robben_island museum prison, it was difficult to ignore the conflicting emotions.
On the one hand, there is the experience of such a bleak environment – grey, windswept, rock, and concrete – discarding any notion of comfortableness. The harshest of conditions that the prisoners had to endure.
On the other side of the coin was the description from the guide who was a political prisoner of the bonds formed. What they did in the most clandestine ways, things that resulted in the birth of South Africa as a democracy. It’s difficult not to feel emotional and grateful.
