Kudos to @grahamabbottphoto who organised the fantastic @barrydaleanaloguephotofestival hosted from 10th -20th December in Barrydale. Besides the great analogue photos on show, talks with @josieborain , @gavinfurlonger, @heidi_erdman, and Pieter Badenhorst from @photohire (to name a few) made for such a cool and interesting festival. If you’re in the Barrydale hood from now until 20th December, don’t miss what this intimate festival offers.

The benefits of movement.
From our brain to our joints, moving every day, and it doesn’t have to be too much, has the power to improve every part of our body.

⛹ Muscles: Just by moving ,which contributes to the strengthening the over 600 muscles we have in our body, it improves our stability, balance, and coordination.

⛹ Joints: Stretching encourages flexibility and range motion which boost flexibility and joint function.

⛹Brain: 30–40-minute walks 3 x per week can help regrow the structures of the brain linked to cognitive decline.

⛹Heart: Regular cycling can cut the risk of heart disease by 50%.

⛹Lungs: Keeping your rate up, improves your cardiorespiratory endurance.

This photo was taken of football players having fun on the beach. Using a slower shutter speed, I’m trying to capture the movement and shapes that confirm my notion of sport as an act of poetry in motion.

The Helderberg area, consisting of Somerset West, Gordon's Bay, and Strand has their own 1st Saturday of the month art route. It's a lot of fun with some fantastic artists showcasing their work, as well as craft breweries etc. @the_restyler and I are involved showcasing my photos and her Jewellery. There is the option of a hop on hop off bus, so you can enjoy a glass of wine or two along the way, or you can peruse in your own vehicle, in your own time. Do you need to adapt, or can you change the situation?
When we find ourselves in uncomfortable situations and the need to adapt arises, the first question we should ask ourselves is,
“Do I need to adapt, or can we change the situation?”
Eskom has brought on load shedding – a situation to which we must adapt.
Impatience around a certain colleague – which is having a negative effect is a situation where we need to adapt.
The point is that life is fluid and our ability to adapt is based on a growth mindset and a choice.

This picture was captured @afrikaburn in 2016.
In the blink of an eye, the weather changed from clear, calm ad tranquil, to stormy, sandy, and destructive.
Tents tied down, masks, jackets and goggles on. A little bit of adapting needed so that the fun could continue.

The @barrydaleanalogphotofestival is a photographic festival that only allows the hanging of hand printed photographs.
Now in it’s second year this festival, which I’m very happy to be exhibiting at, showcases some amazing works. If you’re a lover of #photography, #festivals, #karootowns, #exhibitions, #roadtrips, then this festival is not to be missed.

The Paradox that is certainty.
For us to experience something new we must step into the world of uncertainty. One of the things holding us back from taking the step is that we are unfamiliar with the outcome.
There is no certainty in the uncertainty.
Will we like it or not?
The pros of always wanting certainty are that we will always know what we are going to be experiencing.
The pros of embracing uncertainty is that we will learn new things about ourselves and the experience. Some we will like and some we will not.
Neither is right or wrong they just move us along different trajectories.

This photograph was recently taken during an under-the-city’s- water-carrying-tunnel-tour.
Besides experiencing the dark solitude, and the noise of a city from underneath, I also learned, from the guide, how and why the 1st environmental law was written in Cape Town.

A Journey underneath a city.
Cape Town used to comprise of water carrying canals not to dissimilar to those found in Amsterdam.
In the 1800’s they were covered up forming a warren of tunnels running underneath the city.
It is now a tourist attraction arranged by @tunneltours and it shouldn’t be missed as it’s so much more than just a walk underneath the city.

What "Playing," looks like.
These two young boys were playing with an old scale in an antique store.
Just an old scale.
They were interested in how the dial moved when they put one foot on the platform and moved further when they put both feet on it.
They jostled for turns, laughed, joked, and had fun, without any expectations
All the while asking questions like,
“How?”
“Why?”
“What?”
And saying things like, “imagine if this was a…”
The kinds of questions and statements that lead to creative exploration…and fun.

This picture was taken in Stanford, in a dark antique store. The light from the naked bulb lit up the young boys, illuminating them, playing, having fun, and exploring with their imaginative minds.

What a fun and enjoyable experience it has been over the last 2 days while training the next generation of film makers and leaders from @ikasi_media
I spent two days facilitating a film production training program, and a leadership skills development program with 20 future visual story tellers.
Fun, excitement, inspiration, joy, insights, understanding, and collaboration are all words that come to mind when reflecting on our time together. The future looks bright.
