A quick video montage of a recent leadership skills development program I facilitated on behalf of IKASI MEDIA for their film industry wannabes.

Games, discussions, and exercises, all form part of this interactive program which introduces people to leadership skills to help them lead their way through life as opposed to just managing with what life throws at them.

What "Playing," looks like.
These two young boys were playing with an old scale in an antique store.
Just an old scale.
They were interested in how the dial moved when they put one foot on the platform and moved further when they put both feet on it.
They jostled for turns, laughed, joked, and had fun, without any expectations
All the while asking questions like,
“How?”
“Why?”
“What?”
And saying things like, “imagine if this was a…”
The kinds of questions and statements that lead to creative exploration…and fun.

This picture was taken in Stanford, in a dark antique store. The light from the naked bulb lit up the young boys, illuminating them, playing, having fun, and exploring with their imaginative minds.

I spent two days facilitating a film production training program, and a leadership skills development program with 20 future visual story tellers.
Fun, excitement, inspiration, joy, insights, understanding, and collaboration are all words that come to mind when reflecting on our time together. The future looks bright.

The connection between coaching, photography and creative transformation.
As a Transformation Coach and a professional photographer many people have asked me if there is a cross pollination with my two professions.
Yes, there is!
Part of my coaching involves creative development and one of the tools to develop creativity is something called, “random association.” Here is where I refer to photographs that I’ve taken.
Try this exercise and leave your answers in the comment section below.
Looking at the photograph, write down 3 different things that this Frenchman, sitting at a Bistro, is thinking about. However, try and make the 3 thoughts as random as possible.
(One of the acts of creativity is making a connection between two or more thing to make it more affective. However, we do think individually in a certain way, and this exercise promotes random thinking and alternative ways of finding connections. Initially when most try this exercise it’s quite difficult to disassociate the thoughts. However, the more we practice the more we can come up with more random answers.

"Why do I like reportage photography?"
Reportage is telling a visual story. Not only, is it 'real life," but it allows me to weave the story using my own📸 style.
It also immortalises the moments captured, while allowing the audience to take their time over each picture.
Do you like reportage, and if so why?

These pictures were taken at the @saatch_gallery in London.
The story for me was that viewing art is for all. From young students, older generations, carers and couples, all can view art in their own way - in the brightness and quietness of a contemporary gallery.

There are moments in time when the journey we're on feels like one arduous step after another.
Even though we do have a choice whether we carry on or not and the beacon is the end result, it's also worthwhile to look at the progress made to take note of how far we've come.

The subjects are at times uncomfortable in front of the camera, so more is needed.

It's about understanding;

The subject - their mood, what they want to portray, while making them feel at ease, enough to capture them as naturally as possible - against a suitable backdrop.

"Earthing,"
We live in a world with, tighter deadlines, more social distancing which can add to increased fatigue and stress. One way to combat that is to take off your shoes and walk in the garden, or on the beach or anywhere where we can "connect" to the earth. Not only the walking, but also the fresh air, colours and aromas, contribute to a feeling of relaxation, better sleep, calmness ,re- energising and wellbeing.

This photo was taken on a recent trip to France during the Sunflower season. Fields of yellow cover the landscape, bringing with it a sense of "psychedelic" wonder.

Just before we step on the plane and begin our journey home, there was time for one more road trip. And where better to celebrate our travels than in the heart of Champagne – Reims to be exact.

Beer in two towns in Belgium.

📸 La Panne is a seaside resort on the edge of the North Sea.Wind, wide beaches, cyclists, promenades, Ferris wheels, and where the old meets the new.
Nothing like taking a dip in the North Sea to get the blood flowing.

📸Ypres is a city that was strategic landmark during WW1 and subsequently flattened by artillery fire. However, funds were raised to rebuild many of the important buildings – exactly as they were before the war.
Cathedrals, markets, and amazing #lefortbeer are what I remember from our brief visit @the_restyler @marieodilepryen @_createfulness_

The acceptance of creativity.
The act of creativity – when dependant on external evaluation can:
Initially be judged as bad, foolish, erroneous,
then possibly be seen as obvious or self-evident,
then be accepted or seen as beautiful.
For it to be evident and relevant it just must be accepted by some individual or group at some point in time.

This picture was taken in the old eastern Berlin where graffiti and wall art adorn many a wall.
Some like it, some don't and some are indifferent to it.
For me, I love the quirkiness of this creation - and I accept it as art.

And into Hamburg…

Moving north into Germany the weather closed with big imposing clouds, grey skies, and heavy rains. Not many people about.

Walking around with @the_restyler, @helenemarie.ceillier, most of the time was spent in the #hafencity along the water’s edge enjoying

the architecture,

the symmetry of lines,

open spaces,

while always keeping an eye on the foreboding sky.
